Morven – Mrs. Betty Jean Griggs Huntley, 88, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Ambassador Health and Rehab.

A celebration of life service will be 11:00AM Monday, May 2, 2016, in Morven United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment will follow in Morven Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM.

Betty Jean was born in Anson County on May 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Elisha Eugene and Elzo Spease Griggs. She was married to the love of her life, Frank L. Huntley Jr. for 61 years until his death in 2007. Frank and Betty Jean enjoyed life and each other so much that they not only played together but frequently worked together. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty Jean was active in several of the family businesses including Parson’s Truck Stop, Huntley Grocery, the Morven Drug Co., and the Morven Fabric Shop. She also helped run the Pro Shop when Frank was in charge of Twin Valley Country Club. She was a longtime member of the Morven Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a talented seamstress, and enjoyed golfing as well as playing bridge and canasta on a regular basis.

Survivors include a son, Frank L. “Tookie” Huntley III and his wife, Bonnie of Wadesboro; a grandson, Frank L. Huntley IV (Jennifer); 6 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Christian, Marisa, Keira, Leeland, and Stella; 2 sisters-in-law, Nancy Huntley Ratliff (Lloyd) and Martha Ann Griggs; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Jean was preceded in death by a son, William Eugene “Gene” Huntley; a sister, Catherine “Cat” Sowell; and a brother, Dick Griggs.
