George was born to Neal and Marie Sandlin. He was raised and lived his entire life in the Brighton area. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served honorably in World War II. After his military service, he returned home and bought land from his parents and founded a dairy farm. A few years later, he expanded his farm to include a variety of crops. George farmed proudly until he was 75 years old. He loved traveling the world with his wife Charlene and their grandchildren.
Survivors beside Charlene Coffey included: daughters Edna Robertson, Cynthia (Mark) Salthouse and Cimine Weickum; son George (Diane) Sandlin, Jr.; sister Martha Gaspar; grandchildren Tyler Salthouse, Brittany Salthouse and Christian Weickum. A luncheon honoring him was held May 6th at The Armoury, 300 Strong Street in Brighton. Military Honors were presented by the U.S. Navy. Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled arrangements.
