Enlisted, June 22, 1916, in Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Mustered-in with Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry for service on the Mexican border, June 3, 1916. Squadron A was stationed at Camp McAllen, Texas, with the New York Division. Troop A returned to New York, Dec. 23, 1916 and mustered-out of border service, Dec. 28, 1916, New York City.

World War 1, attended OTC at Plattsburg Barracks, NY, July 7, 1917, and commissioned, 2nd Lieutenant, Field Artillery, August 15, 1917. Assigned to the 304th Field Artillery, 77th Division, Camp Upton, NY. He deployed to France with the 304th Field Artillery, April 24, 1918. He saw extensive combat till November 11, 1918. Returned to the States, April 29, 1919 and discharged May 10, 1919, at Camp Mills, NY.

World War 2, enlisted in Company G, 51st Regiment, New York State Guard ( Squadron A ), Jan 23, 1941. Company G, 51st Regiment took the place of the 101st Cavalry ( Manhattan unit ) ( Squadron A ), as it was federalized pre World War 2. Discharged October 10, 1941.
