R. L. Cauthen Dies At Athens Wednesday A. M.
Suffered Stroke at Ila Wednesday Morning- Former Prominent Elberton Business Man.
Mr. Robert L. Cauthen, 64 years old, for many years a leading business man and city official of Elberton, died at a hospital in Athens Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He suffered a stroke at his farm near Ila in Madison county, earlier in the day, and never regained consciousness.
Mr. Cauthen was a native of Hart county. In young manhood he moved to Elberton where with his brother, J. A. Cauthen, he engaged in the live stock business and accumulated a handsome competency. Nineteen years ago he moved to Athens where he has since lived.
Mr. Cauthen was a member of the Baptist church, a 32d degree Mason and Shriner.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at four o'clock at the Elberton First Baptist church by Dr. Wm. H. Rich, for so many years his pastor during his residence here, assisted by Dr. Henry T. Brookshire.
