Wayne P. Baird passed away at his home in Newberg on April 25 at the age of 85. He was born January 9, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lowell and Nancy Baird. Wayne was the youngest of five children.
His family moved to Portland, Oregon where he met and married Beverly Knotts on July 30, 1949. They moved to Iowa until 1955 when they returned to the Portland area, settling in Newberg.
He worked in the plumbing industry, co-owning Copper Plumbing in Tigard for many years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 55 years, Beverly in 2004 and his precious daughter, Pamela Trent in 2014. Wayne was remarried in April 2005 to Maridine Douglass. He was happy to find someone special to spend his remaining years with and said he wouldn’t care if they got married in a phone booth! He will be remembered for his love for the Lord, serving others, generosity, and humorous wit. He was most comfortable in blue jeans and riding on his tractor.Wayne is survived by his wife Maridine, his sons Michael (Lynn), Ronald (Tina), and Chris (Danielle); also Charley (Michelle) Douglass, Mark(Lois) Douglass, Dan (Brenda) Douglass, and David (Tracie) Douglass. Wayne always considered Grant Erickson his son as well. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne will be forever in our hearts.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at Christian Gospel Church, 14000 N.E. Hwy. 240 in Newberg, with a lunch reception following. Private internment will take place at Valley View Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Attrell’s of Newberg.
