Pvt Connors enlisted into the army at Chicago IL on December 5, 1867. His listed civilian occupation was teamster. Connors was described as 5'7", blue eyes, dark hair with a fair complexion.

Conners was assigned to the 8th US Cavalry at Ft Selden NM. At the end of Connors' enlistment, he reenlisted. Conners reenlisted at St Louis MO on August 20, 1875. He was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry at Ft Lincoln in the Dakota Territory. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Conners was killed sometime during the fighting.

After the battle burial details found most of Company I in an area between Calhoun Hill & Last Stand Hill. It is believed that Company I, while in a skirmish line, were attacked from the rear by warriors led by Crazy Horse & overwhelmed.

Conners remains were not reported as being identified. It is likely that he was first buried where he had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
