Ruby Hahn, age 94, passed away peacefully in the Stamford Community Care Center on April 26, 2016. Ruby was born in 1922 in a small farm house a few miles outside of Lueders to Ted and Barbara Willoughby. A graduate of Lueders High School she met Raymond Hahn of Chicago when Ray was stationed with the Army Air Corps at Stamford. They were married in 1941; a union that lasted until Ray’s death in 2004. Following the war Ray and Ruby moved to Markham IL where they made a home and raised four children. With the children grown they moved to Avon Park FL where they enjoyed over 20 golden years of retirement. After Raymond’s death Ruby moved back to Stamford in 2005 to be near her three sisters and numerous other family members.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Patricia Drexel, a granddaughter Nancy James, her brother Carl Willoughby, and her sisters Faye Young of Abilene, Norma Ford of Lueders, and Marybelle (“Tussy”) Patty of Stamford.
Ruby is survived by three children: Philip Hahn, Janet Miller, and Charlotte James all now living in Stamford. Ruby’s grandchildren are Andrew, Jerimiah, and Katherine Hahn, Sara (Drexel) Verwers, Jennifer (Drexel) Ernsteen, and Jason James. She has eight great grandchildren: Jillian and Jackson James, Payton and Lauren Ernsteen, Nick and Jake Verwers, and Audrey and Calvin Hahn.
Ruby will be remembered as a perpetually cheerful soul who brightened the lives of all those who knew her. Her cheerfulness remained right up to her final days despite the blight of
Alzheimer’s.
Memorial services for Ruby will be at 10:00 a.m. May 7, 2016 at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel at 807 S. Columbia, Stamford, TX. Burial of cremains will follow at the Rockdale Cemetery in Haskell County.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3015 Pioneer Dr., Abilene, EX 79605.
