Newark – Eleanor Manning Jones, 95 died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home.

Private calling for family only. Family and friends may attend a celebration of her life Friday (Sept. 29) at 2 p.m. at the Oxbow Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Oxbow Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be Saturday (Oct. 7) at 2 p.m. at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark.

Mrs. Jones was born the daughter of the late C. Frederick and Jennie Murphy Manning on September 2, 1911 in Wegetchie, NY. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1927. She married Charles Jones on Dec. 17, 1932. Mrs. Jones worked as a bookkeeper for Gouverneur Motor Sales retiring in 1994.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the Oxbow Presbyterian Church and affiliate member of Park Presbyterian Church. She was a past moderator of the Presbytery of Northern New York. Mrs. Jones was a charter member of Oxbow Historical Society and served as President for 12 years. She also was past President of the Gouverneur Business & Professional Counsel. Antwerp Town Historian for 10 years. While living in Gouverneur she was a member of the Baptist Church where she held many positions.

Mrs. Jones will be remembered by her daughters, Alison (Frank) Reiners of Newark, Ann (Ed) Eisenord of Williamville and Janet (Ronald) Harrington of IN.; 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1981 and sister Alison Gooch in 2004.
