In loving memory of our mother and sister, Dr. Ann McCoy Beck, who departed this life on August 31, 2014.

She was a veterinarian, a sister, a daughter, a mother and a dear friend and colleague to so many.

Dr. Beck lived on Johns Island and is survived by her daughter, Betty Ann “Babs” Craig and her husband, Michael Hugh Craig of Charleston, SC; her son, Frank Edward Beck and his wife, Thuy Beck, of Connecticut; her brother, Howard Grohmann “Bud” McCoy and his wife, Diane “Sis” Pitts McCoy, of Simpsonville, SC; her 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by one uncle and two aunts in Aiken, SC; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear close friends.

Dr. Beck also leaves behind her business partner, Dr. Keith Bryan and colleague, Dr. Jean McKee Thompson, as well as the devoted staff of the Sea Islands Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Beck opened the business with Dr. Bryan 46 years ago and has devoted her life to the health and safety of all God’s creatures, great and small, for as long as her family can remember.

Dr. Beck graduated from St. Andrew’s High School, the University of South Carolina, received her Master’s Degree from MUSC, and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University.

She has received many awards and distinguished honors throughout her career, with the assistance of her staff and colleagues at Sea Island, including the SCAV’s Humanitarian Award in 1987 for all her work with wildlife.

Her love of animals and life, as well as the love of family, made her a driving force and so very young at heart. To all her family and friends, do not weep, for she is not gone, but merely living life elsewhere among those who passed before us and she will see you again.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014, 2:00pm - 5:00pm at Old Wide Awake Plantation, 5149 Trexler Ave, Hollywood, SC 29449. All family, friends, clients and staff of Sea Island Veterinary Hospital are welcome.

The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers or gifts.
