Donald Wheeler, 83, passed away on October 10, 2006. Born July 5th, 1923 in Vincennes, IN., he was preceded in death by his wife Rosanne. He is survived by his sons James (Judy), Stephen (Rebecca), and Frank (Rochelle); his brothers Bayard and Glen and his sister Alice (Coleman) Archer. He is also survived by his four grandchildren; Keith, Raymond, Matthew and Ashlee and one great-grandson James Wheeler III. His whole life revolved around music. Beginning in high school and continuing when he enlisted in the US Army in 1944. He served from 1944 to 1964 with the 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th & 386th Army bands. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korea War. After retirement from the Entertainment Supply for the 8th Army in Korea. He provided logistical and technical support for all USO shows in Korea; including Bob Hope and The New Christy Minstrels. He formed lasting friendships with Korean musicians as a conductor of choral groups in that country. He directed numerous music programs at Korean church fellowships after arriving in Colorado Springs in 1974 as well as being the choir director at Trinity United Methodist Church for a number of years. He also maintained a strong presence at KCME 88.7 FM, Colorado Springs' "Voice for the Arts" classical and jazz radio station. He was active with the Shriners as a member of the Al Kaly Shrine Club. He is twice the Past Commander and is member Emeritus of the Shriners Legion of Honor and was also a member of the Morning Calm Lodge and MacArthur Lodge of Masons. Donald was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Monday October 16, 2006 from 4:00 - 7:00pm, funeral service on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 both at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel 3825 Airport Rd.
