John E. “Ed” Hardcastle, age 80, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Tuesday January 1, 2019, at his home, following an illness.

John was born on April 30, 1938 in Sherman, Tx., the son of the late Henry Bailey and Helen Mae (Myers) Hardcastle. He married Mary Dodd on May 24, 1956 in Baxter Springs, Ks., and together they raised two sons. He has been a Joplin resident since 1994. Prior to that he and his wife lived in Miami, Ok., where he worked twenty-nine years for B.F. Goodrich. He was a member of the 26th & Connecticut Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Hardcastle on January 24, 2014, and by one son, Robert Hardcastle in 1994.

John is survived by one son, James Alan Hardcastle and wife Kenda, Joplin; his daughter-in-law, Karen Bryant, Joplin, one brother Bill Hardcastle and wife Arlene, Webb City, Mo.; three grandsons, Robert Michael Hardcastle and wife Melissa, Joplin, James Edwin Hardcastle and wife Samantha, Webb City, Mo.; and Joe Tracy and his wife Stephanie, Joplin, and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Richard Chambers, Minister will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Ok. The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
