Rebecca Sebren

Clinton, MS

Rebecca "Becky" Jean Sebren went to be with the LORD on April 24, 2016, after an extended illness. She was born in Jackson, MS on July 10, 1951 to the late, James F. and Lillie T. Sebren.

Becky was an honor graduate of Provine High School (1969) and of Belhaven College (1973). She taught high school history for two years, then began what would be 36 years of state service when she was hired by the Mississippi Employment Security Commission. She worked in the Equal Employment Opportunity Division where she met her life-long friends, Louis Beverly, Jr. and William Harkless, Jr.

In July 1988, Becky joined the staff of Governor Ray Mabus as Correspondence Coordinator. A history major, this was a very special job to her, allowing her to work out of the State Capitol Building and Governor's Mansion.

In January 1992, Becky began working at the University of MS Medical Center. Over the next 20 years she worked in the Division of Endocrinology (Dr. Eric Dyess), the Division of Hypertension (Dr. Dan Jones), and the Division of General Internal Medicine (Dr. C. Andrew Brown). Health problems forced Becky to retire in 2011.

Becky was a member of First Baptist Church, Florence, MS and a former member of Parkway Baptist Church, Jackson. Becky loved books, classical music and her family. She will be remembered as a kind and loving daughter, sister and aunt.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jim and Lillie Sebren of Clinton, MS; and a nephew, Michael Gregory Williams of Vicksburg, MS. She is survived by three sisters: Patsy Sebren Tolleson (Bill) of Florence, MS; Peggy Sebren Wall of Birmingham, AL; and Judy Sebren Williams (Gary) of Vicksburg, MS.

Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson, MS is in charge of all arrangements. The family will receive guests from 12:00 to 2:00 on Thursday, April 28th. A prayer service will follow in the funeral home's chapel, with interment at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Boulevard in Jackson. A special thanks to Dr. Gina Heath of Central Surgical Associates of Jackson, and Kylie Zombro of Sta-Home Health for their kindness, compassionate care, and friendship and to Becky's kind sitter, Sheila Bass. Much love and appreciation is extended to Jerry Pilgrim, Becky's thoughtful, caring neighbor and dear friend. What a blessing he has been to all Becky's family.
