Reverend Clinton Gray Jr., 86, of Sandusky, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Reverend Gray was born April 10, 1930, in Waynesboro, Miss., to Clinton and Georgia (Gandy) Gray Sr.

As a very young man, Reverend Gray accepted the Lord as his Savior. He diligently studied the Bible and truly had God’s Word hidden in his heart. In 1964, he received his minister’s license and in 1967, he received his Certificate of Ordination. For over 32 years, he was the pastor of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ in Sandusky and Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Swanton, Ohio. Because of his faithfulness and saintly integrity, he was held in the highest esteem by the Bishops, Elders and workers throughout the state and on the national level. He was an anointed man of God and labored to the very end by ministering and speaking God’s Word to everyone he met. His life’s motto was “God is Love ... Christ is Life.”

Reverend Gray was one of the first African-American machinists in Sandusky and worked in that capacity for 30 years at Farrell Cheek Steel Company. He was also a member of the Buckeye Sheriff Association and received his Certificate of Graduation from the Erie County Sheriff's Office Citizens Police Academy.

He was a father to many, making a difference in the lives of young people everywhere he traveled. He enjoyed being around his family and spent a great deal of time hunting and fishing. He took pride in his flowers and fruit trees and also loved to garden, sharing his harvest of fruits, vegetables and homemade jelly with everyone.

Reverend Gray is survived by his wife, Myra (Harris) Gray, whom he married on Dec. 5, 1992. He is also survived by his children, Patricia (Jake) McDowell of Detroit, Mich., Martin Dean Gray of Waynesboro, Miss., Clavon Gray of Mansfield, Althornia Gray of Sandusky, Allean (Lawrence Jr.) Fuqua of Sandusky, Darlean Cummings of Pickerington, Alvin C.
