John A. Sabatini Sr., 88, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Mountain View Care Center. His beloved wife of 61 years is the former Ann Manetti.

Born in Scranton on June 22, 1927, he was the son of the late August and Assunta Stefani Sabatini.

John was a faithful Roman Catholic and was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish. He attended Scranton Technical High School.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 665 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6528.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the trucking industry. As a proud teamster, a member of Teamsters local, he worked for Werner Continental, Halls and Yellow Freight Lines.

John's favorite hobbies were going to the Pro Fitness Club at the Birney Plaza in Moosic, talking to his friends and reading military and political books were his favorite pastimes.

Also surviving are his sons, John A. Sabatini Jr., Scranton; and Bruce Sabatini and wife, Leah, Mountain Top; a grandson, Tristen Sabatini; sisters, Gloria Perugini, Swoyersville; and Sandy Ferrario, Tyler Hill; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Joseph Lubrani, and a brother, Joseph Lubrani Jr.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from August J. Haas Funeral Home Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor.

Interment will be in the Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
