--Son of James Campbell Davidson and wife Ella Brimer. He grew up in Clover and graduated from Clover High School.
--U.S. Army Veteran; he served from July 1947 until June 1950.

--Sam married Peggy Hucks; they were married 63 years. They had 2 children: Martin and Sara, and 4 grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters.
