June Ahlin, 79, passed away unexpectedly on a Friday, at home of natural causes.

She was the daughter of Alvar "Arvid" and Florence (Hoffman) Anderson. She was raised in Cornell, Niagara, Wis., and Escanaba.

June graduated from Escanaba High School in 1954. She later continued her education at Bay de Noc Community College, earning her associates degree in 1970.

On May 5, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Ahlin, at Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2005.

June was the former secretary at Central United Methodist Church for a number of years, first at the downtown location and later at the current Lincoln Road location. She was the "office manager" of A&M Builders when her husband had a contracting business partnership. She was also the proud owner of June's Bingo and Party Supplies for 12 years until she sold that business on Dec. 31, 1998.

June was very heavily involved in our community as a volunteer and helped with many organizations in addition to her church. She was currently still volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul in the client intake office, the OSF St. Francis Auxiliary, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and helped with the Wells Township elections. She was a house manager for the Delta County Alliance against Violence and Abuse for several years. She was a former member/treasurer of the Escanaba Lady Elks and former member of the Eagles Club. She served on the Downtown Development Committee. June served 23 years on the Delta County Credit Union Board of Directors. She was an active member of the local Altrusa International group. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines chorus.

June was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church. She dearly loved her church "family." She was the current Pasty Crew chief/treasurer, was on the altar committee, in a small group Bible study group, on the church kitchen renovation committee and was a financial counter. In addition to her prior involvement with the local church as secretary, she had also been previously on the Trustees, the Church Council, led the Funeral Committee, had been in the Quilting Group, was a past treasurer of the Marquette District United Methodist Women and had previously been on the Detroit Conference Personnel Committee of the United Methodist Church.

She was survived by: children, Lori (Larry) Kestila and Douglas Ahlin; grandchildren, Curtis (Heather) Kestila, Levi (Beth) Ahlin, Dr. Derek Kestila, and Richard (Joanna) Ahlin; three great grandchildren, Rex Ahlin, Deacon Kestila, Alayna Ahlin; brothers and sisters, Delores (Lorry) Flath, Merle (Gerry) Stryker, Dale (Dee) Anderson, Gordon (Nancy) Anderson, Paula (Bruce) Erickson and Terry (Steven) Anderson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to parents and her husband, Glenn, she was preceded in death by: a stillborn grandson, Daniel; and younger brother, Glen Anderson.

Visitation at Central United Methodist Church and funeral services officiated by Pastor Donna Minarik.
