Pvt Broadhurst was described as 5'5", brown eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion. His listed civilian occupation was weaver. He enlisted into the army on September 22, 1873 at Philadelphia PA.

On October 22, 1873, Broadhurst reported for duty at Ft Totten, Dakota Territory. He was assigned to Company I, 7th U.S. Cavalry. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh. Between February 18, 1875 & March 1876, Broadhurst's status was sick quarters due to a "continual groin injury."

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Broadhurst was killed sometime during the fighting.

After battle most of Company I was found in a low area between Calhoun Hill & Last Stand Hill.

Broadhurst's body was not identified. It is likely that his remains were buried on the battlefield where they had been found. In 1881 battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
