Fred Otto Kickertz the son Eugene and Emma (Ladenthin) Kickertz was born April 22, 1916 in Addison North Dakota. He grew up in North Dakota. On November 17, 1937 Fred was united in marriage to Myrtle Bragg on his parent's farm in Wheatland, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Marble, Minnesota, where Fred owned and operated Jim's Bar. This marriage was blessed with six children. In 1946, the couple moved to Glenwood and bought the Victory Cafe. In 1950 they moved to a farm they bought east of Glenwood. Fred and Myrtle shared 29 years of marriage before Myrtle passed away in 1966. While living in Glenwood, Fred began working for the Soo Line Railroad. He continued to work for the railroad for almost thirty years until he retired in 1981.

Fred was united in marriage to Erma (Johnson) Overstad on November 28, 1968 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. The couple made their home on Erma's farm east of Glenwood before moving to Pelican Lake, where they have lived for the last twenty-two years.

Fred and Erma shared 40 years of marriage. Fred was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church where he served as an Usher. He enjoyed music, dancing, playingcards, and good conversation. He will be remembered for being a kind, gentle man with a quick wit.

Fred died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood.

He is survived by his wife, Erma of Glenwood; children, Fred E. (Betty) Kickertz of Plymouth, MN, Virginia Kickertz of San Pedro, CA, Betty Jean (Lee) Recknor of Rochester, MN, Allan (Kathy) Kickertz of Elburn, IL, Genevieve (Larry) Murtaugh of Richmond, VA, and Jim (Holly) Kickertz of Maxwell, TX; step-children, Gary (Lori) Overstad of Anchorage, AK, Sharon (Tim) Robards of Glenwood, Sandy (Richard) Larson of Starbuck, MN, and Julie Erickson of Glenwood, 17 grandchildren, David Kickertz, Kayle Kickertz, Katie (Ryan) Penning, Casey Kickertz, Julianne (Nick) Davis, Glen Recknor, Andrew (Katrina Hanson) Kickertz, Kevin Murtaugh, Ryan (Laree) Robards, Christopher Robards, Matthew Larson, Kari Larson, Trevor Larson, Tara Larson, Jackie (Jason) Cose, Shana Erickson, Jonathan Erickson, Orlin Erickson, and Alan Erickson; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hemm of West Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Ila Vey Kickertz of Chaffee, ND; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Emma Kickertz; 1st wife, Myrtle, step-son, Scott Overstad; and brothers, Ervin, Roger, Vern and Alfred.
