Funeral services for Joseph Alfred Gaines, 83, Marsing Route 1, who died at a Caldwell hospital Monday after an extended Illness, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Alsip Chapel. The Rev. Frank Marler of First Christian Church, Nampa, will officiate. Interment will be at KohIerlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Gaines was born Oct. 20, 1881, at Agra, Kan. He was raised there and married Nanna McCord May 27, 1908 in Phillips County, Kan. The couple farmed at Kirwin, Kan., a number of years before coming to Marsing in 1935. Prior to his retirement he had been employed by the Symms Fruit Ranch at Caldwell. He also worked for G. M. Brown, Nampa. He was a member of the Christian Church at Agra.
Survivors include six sons, Harlan of Marsin, Hugh, Long Beach, Calif.; Kermit, of Marsin; Gerald, Long Beach; Elwoy, of Nampa; and Allen, Huntington Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Ralph Gaines, Minden, Neb.; Russel and Marion Gaines, both of Phillipsburg, Kan., and 16 grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Mr. Gaines was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Rosco, and three brothers, Mrs. Gaines died July 12, 1949.
