A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 12:30 PM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA, for Anthony James Blackwell born June 24, 1955 in Lafayette to Leonard Blackwell Sr. and Savannah Burney Blackwell. He departed this life and entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
"Joe Black" as his family and friends knew him, lived a happy and full life. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Roseau Burney and Mable Comeaux Burney.
He is survived by five children; daughters, Latanya Dixon and Brandi Blackwell; sons, Brandon Blackwell, Chase August and Burnell George all of Lafayette; sisters; Pamela Blackwell, Mable Blackwell, Charlotte Mitchell all of Lafayette, and Senora Blackwell of Dallas, TX; brothers, Leonard (Linda) Blackwell Jr., Rickey (Elsie) Blackwell, and Russell Blackwell all of Lafayette, and Kevin Blackwell of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren and companion Lorraine Williams.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rousseau Burney and Mable Comeaux Burney, paternal grandparents, Albert Blackwell Jr. and Victoria Guillory Blackwell; aunts, Verna Gobert, Isabelle Faulk and Mary Ann Blackwell.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 7:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Kinchen Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fountain Memorial Cemetery.
