Assigned to the 111th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron in Corsia to fly recon missions over the south of France in support of Operation Anvil Dragoon. Shot down at 6:50 pm on 22 Aug 44 while flying his Mustang P-51-F6A accompanied by his flight leader, Roy Simmons, in another Mustang.
