Emerson was a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, retired from the US Postal Service, a previous member of the National Guard, and a member of the Gospel Travelers Bluegrass Band. Emerson was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Emerson Sr. and Melba Dawes Turner, son, Christopher Turner, and a brother, Bobby Turner.
Survivors: wife, Peggy T. Turner, of the home, sister, Ann Simpson, of Nashville, NC, brothers, Gary Turner, and wife, Laura, of Eleanor, West Virginia, Johnny Turner, and wife, Debbie, of Wilson.
