Jeremiah was the son of William Shane and Lydia (Dutton) Page. He married Harriet Amanda Romig on 22 Mar 1866 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Together, they had about 15 children.
He was in Ohio's 51st Volunteer Infantry, Company G, during the Civil War. When he returned from the war, he was a farmer and a brakeman for the C. L. & W. Railway (Cleveland-Lorain-Wheeling). On 19 Aug 1890, he was thrown from the train, and the train ran over his right leg. It had to be amputated below the knee. After that, he walked with a cane.
He died at age 75 of Bright's disease and arterio sclerosis.
