Dennis entered active military service on August 12, 1943, and served in the United States Navy. He received the American Area Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal. Dennis served as a Navy Chaplin. He was Honorably Discharged on May 21, 1946.
On June 18, 1949, Dennis was united in marriage to Lelia Bentley in Escanaba, Michigan. After their marriage, the couple resided in St. Paul while Dennis was attending Bethel College and Seminary. Dennis took his first position at Lake Baptist Church in Lake City, Minnesota; he then accepted a call with the Baptist Church in Becker, Minnesota. In 1953, Dennis accepted a position with a Baptist Church in Oakland, Nebraska, and was there approximately six years. He became pastor of the Mandan Baptist Church in Mandan, North Dakota, and in 1960, they moved to Barnum, Minnesota, where he was pastor at Sandy Lake Baptist Church for eight years. The family then moved to Gibbon where Dennis served as pastor at the Clear Lake Baptist Church until their move to Minneapolis in 1970. He worked for Hennepin County in the Adoption Department, retiring in 1985. Dennis and Lelia were blessed with five children. They shared 62 years of marriage before Lelia passed away on June 7, 2011.
Dennis was an avid reader and he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a loving care giver. Dennis loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his Children Cheryl (Chuck) Stark of Gibbon, MN, Dale (Barb) Goodman of Maple Grove, MN, Karen (John) Martinez of Champlin, MN, and Diane (Rick) Wacker of Gibbon, MN; Grandchildren, Niccole, Shea, Michelle, Aaron, Kyle, Nico, Colin, and Lexi; Great-Grandchildren, Riley, Cassidy, Noah, Addison, Logan and Lily; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his Wife, Lelia Goodman; Daugther, Sandra (Dave) Graunke; Granddaughter, Lynn Mae; Parents; and Brothers, Reverend Rodger, Hiram, Alan and Douglas Goodman.
