Before retirement, he owned and operated Dale's Service Station, Carbondale, and co-owned Dale & Dave's Auto Supply Co., Carbondale. WWII Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Avid collector of cast iron doorstops. Also surviving are a son, Gerald, and a sister, Lois Evans.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Lombardi, who died in 1993 and a son, Reed, who died in 1992.
