Betty Hays of Elk, WA went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2016. Betty was born on November 12, 1927 in Elk, WA to Frank and Betty Podlas. She married Harry C. Hays on November 20, 1944. They had two boys, Roy E. Hays and Terry L. Hays.
Betty enjoyed many activities, such as her flowers and vegetable gardens, dancing, reading and bowling. She was also a member of the Red Hats and a founding member of the Elk Homemakers Club.
The family wants to acknowledge a special thanks to Phyllis and Gary Sage for always being there for Betty. Some of the extras they provided were taking her to appointments, emergency and hospital calls, shopping, and anything that Betty needed. Also, thanks to Alan Hastings for the wonderful memories you made with Betty, including all the meaningful phone calls when you couldn't be together.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry; brother Frank Jr. and his wife Joyce; and her son Terry.
She is survived by her son Roy (Margie); daughter in-law Madonna Cherry; four grandchildren Mike Hays, Shannon Jiskra (Kelly), Joylene Neumiller (Russ), and Dustin Hays (Pamela); four great-grandchildren Austin Jiskra, Trevor Jiskra, Makenna Neumiller and Katelyn Neumiller; a nephew Rick Podlas (Melody); great-niece Angelina Burgard (Mark); and great-great nieces Isabelle Burgard and Esther Burgard.
Betty's memorial service will be Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Church of the Open Bible, 40015 N. Collins Road, Elk, WA. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Hospice of Spokane.
