Paul was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on January 30, 1939 to Olas Lawrence and Dora Mae (Wilson) Rush.
After graduating high school in Stanton, Texas he joined the United States Army where he attained the rank of Sergeant and had spent two years in Germany. Paul married Virginia L. (Meek) Hollis-Rush February 12, 1976 in Miami. He worked for Mobil Oil in Stanton, Texas for two years and the Bruce Concrete in Tulsa, before working for AT&T/Southwestern Bell for twenty-nine years and retiring in December of 1992. He and Virginia are members of First United Methodist Church in Miami; he was also a member of Telephone Pioneers, Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Paul is preceded in passing by his parents Olas and Dora, a sister Opal Maria Rush, and two brothers Robert Eugene Rush, Roy Charles Rush and a son Steve Hollis.
Survivors include his wife Virginia L. Rush of the home, a daughter Cindy Brown and her husband Steve of Miami, a daughter in law Anne Hollis of Austin, Texas, one sister Betty Scheib, her grandchildren Kevin Brown of Oklahoma City, Keith Brown of Joplin, Missouri and Sarah Hollis of Austin, Texas along with his several nieces and nephews.
Services are 2:00 PM, Monday, April 25, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Miami with Reverend Mark Rickman officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Faith for Tomorrow at First United Methodist Church in Miami.
