Roland E. "Rollie" Reynolds, 81, of Grand Island died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at home.

To honor Mr. Reynolds' request, his body was cremated. Private services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Reynolds was born Dec. 11, 1930, near Palmer to Oscar and Marie Frances (Ewers) Reynolds.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Luella (Cooney) Reynolds; a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Nancy Reynolds of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Kevin Quinn of Virginia.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, David Reynolds and Will, Megan and Kerry Quinn.

Rollie attended rural school and graduated from St. Paul High School and then attended the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture. Immediately after, he spent two years in the U.S. Air Force. Rollie farmed, taught a Veterans Agriculture Class at St. Paul and spent the balance of his working life in sales. In later life, he became a writer and painter.

On Aug. 6, 1952, Rollie married Luella Cooney. They were in their 60th year of marriage in 2012. He served as post commander of the American Legion in St. Paul. He also was a Stephen Minister for 10 years, on the board of directors of the free clinic, Habitat for Humanity, was a Big Brother, and served on many committees of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Rollie was baptized in the United Brethren Church in Gage Valley, which later merged with the United Methodist Church, where he spent the rest of his life serving on committees.

A memorial fund will be established in memory of Rollie.
