Chester was the oldest son of Ward and Alice Johnson Wright, born in Winsted, CT. He served his country proudly from 1942 till Dec. 31st 1945 as a Coxswain aboard the USS Suamico (AO-49) and Moctobi (ATF-105), having earned 10 battle stars, Saumico 8, Moctobi, 2. He was involved in action in the Pacific campaign at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guam, Saipan, Eniwetok Atoll and others, finishing his duty with the invasion fleet off the coast of Japan. He was honored in 2009 by the State of Connecticut for his courage and service during WWII. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 44 in Bantam acting as part of the Honor Guard and Firing Squad, marching and riding in the Memorial Day parade for many years.
Chester worked as a metal finisher for several companies in CT, retiring as a foreman at 71. With his 6 children, he loved playing badminton, catch and coaching Little League Baseball. He was a hardworking, loving, gentle man. He and his soulmate Midge enjoyed many wonderful years in Bantam.
He moved to in NH after her passing. He loved spending time with his great-grandsons, Caleb, Joseph, whom he formed a special bond, Joshua and teasing granddaughter Brandi and husband Nathan. He enjoyed gardening, picking blueberries, watching the wild turkeys, his weaving and doing things with his daughter Sue. He had an amazing funny quick wit that made everyone laugh.
He was predeceased by three brothers and sisters, wife Midge, daughters Darlene and Barbara and son Leonard. He is survived by his sons Thomas and wife Pam Wright of CT., Richard and wife Melissa Wright of Colorado, and daughter Sue Ann Doyle, NH, sister Shirley Laforge, brother Donald Wright of CT, 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A service and burial will take place April 29th 2016, 1 p.m. at Fairfield Memorial Cemetery, Oaklawn Ave., Stamford, CT.
Donations may be made to the American Legion Post 44, Bantam, CT. in his memory.
