Kathleen Johnson Deakyne, of Smyrna, died on Jan. 26, 2009, in Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover, after a long illness.
She was 86.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Carl E. Johnson of Dover in 1980; her second husband, Howard C. Deakyne of Smyrna in 2008; a sister, Eleanor Roberson; and two brothers, John and Robert Norman.
She is survived by her children, Michael A. Johnson and his wife Ellen of Norfolk, Va., Kathleen Johnson of Gainesville, Fla., Bowie Johnson and her partner Mary Ann of Braintree, Mass., and Ruth Smolnik and her husband Mark of Claremont, N.H.; four grandchildren, Michael, Christy, Benjamin and Miguel; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her oldest sister, Julia Krick, of Seattle, Wash. and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was born in Yonkers, N.Y., June 7, 1922, the daughter of the late John Hugh Norman and Julia Tisdale Norman. She grew up in Annapolis, Md., her beloved home-town. She lived throughout the country during her life and traveled extensively in retirement with her husband.
She spent her last 30 years in Delaware and loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, gardening and the seashore.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, in St. Polycarp Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna. Friends may call 11:30 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St. Smyrna.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Dover.
