Darrell was born to Darby and Merle Wright. Darrell graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. Following graduation he was employed by Texas Gas Utilities Corp. in Del Rio and Houston, his duties included screening prospects and performing routine well site geology from 1959 to 1963. In 1966 he was manager of Geology with Southern Natural Gas Co., Houston, Tx. He joined Ralph E. Davis Associates, Inc. Houston in 1985. Then he was with Transco until his retirement. Following his retirement Darrell spent most of his time ranching and farming on his beloved family ranch near the Nix community in Lampasas, where he grew up. He researched and recorded the history of Nix. Darrell was an avid reader. His passions included reading and studying history, nature, and wildlife, as well as salt water fishing and hunting. Darrell was instrumental in getting the one room school house that he attended donated to the community of Nix. He and the members refurbished it and are continuing to use it as a community center. Survivors include; his wife, Maurine of Houston. Son, Darby Wright and wife Tammy and their children Travis and Kayleigh of New Braunfels. Daughter, Laura Shoppa and husband Chris and their children Will, Madison and Mackenzie of Ft. Worth. Sister, Barbara and Dwayne Turner of Coleman; and their children as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
