A graduate of Williamson High School where he excelled as a football player, sports fans of that era claimed he had an unusual punting ability. He attended Centre College in Danville, KY. Member of the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce, first United Methodist Church, Williamson Rotary Club, the Mingo-Pike Automobile Dealers Association, Williamson Lodge No. 1613 Loyal Order of the Moose. Member of the Tug Valley Country Club at Sprigg, WV, where he served as club president on 2 occasions. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of directors.
