Joseph E. Wohner, age 72, of Bloomfield Road, Springfield, passed away at 1:40 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his home after an illness. A native of Washington County, he was born on May 22, 1943 to the late Randle B. and Fern Lanham Wohner. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, a United States Army Veteran and a retired employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Ronald Louis Wohner on August 1, 1953 and Rue Allen Wohner on December 13, 2006 and a sister, Barbara Cheser on April 7, 2001.

Survivors include: his wife, Mattie Henderson Wohner; a step-daughter, Robin Harris (Ted) of Griffin, Georgia; two step-grandsons, Drew and McLain Harris; a sister, Geraldine Noel (Lonnie) of Springfield and two brothers, David Wohner and Kenny Wohner both of Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 25, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Cal Adams, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery where military rites were conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Coulter, Ray Hamilton, Freddie Wohner, Jeremy Stokley, Ronnie Hunstsberger and Kathi Huntsberger. Casket bearers will be Joey Wohner, Bill Cheser, Kevin Blandford, Randy Wohner, Todd Noel and Tommy Adams. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to, Hosparus Green River. Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
