He graduated from Eastern High School, Class of 1960, and worked in the bookstore across from the school all three years. He retired from Parts Associates, Inc. in 2004.

Jerry was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also awarded the Order of the Arrow and was on the Indian dance team. In later years Jerry served as a counselor at many Boy Scout camps.

After high school Jerry joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and was stationed in San Diego. He worked at the Volunteers of America on Christmas mornings for many years and earned the honorary title of "mashed potato man".

He was active with several astronomy clubs and spent many hours stargazing at local observatories.
