Funeral services for John H. Merritt will be held Friday (Aug 25) in Salas Brothers Galt, Mission Chapel in Galt, Sacramento County. Merritt, 76, died Monday in Danberry, Tex., following a short illness. A rancher in Galt, he had farmed in the Turlock, Modesto and Escalon, San Joaquin County, areas for many years. He was a native of Selma, Fresno County.
He was the husband of Grace M. Merritt of Galt; father of Francis R. Merritt of Sacramento, John B. Merritt of Fresno, Dr. Phillip Merritt and Ruby Wilson, both of Modesto, and Betty Ledbetter of Marysville, Yuba County; stepfather of William T. Giddens of Danberry, Tex., Harold D. Giddens of Galt, Max Kuykendall of Hayward, Alameda County, Everett Kuykendall of Sacramento, and Glenn and Roy Kuykendall and Ardith Ormsbee, all of Reno.
He was the brother of Carl Merritt of Modesto, Earl and William Merritt, both of Porterville, Tulare County, Minnie Bishop of Turlock and Rosetta Long of San Francisco. Also survived by 27 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
