Peter Diehl, 51 years old, of 116 North Twelfth street, janitor at West Side Library, died suddenly at a local hospital at 7 o'clock this morning. Mr. Diehl complained of feeling ill about two weeks ago, but did not consider it serious. He was stricken with a brain stroke at 10:30 o'clock last night, and was taken immediately to the hospital, where he died eight hours later.

A lifelong resident of Belleville, he was born here August 2, 1881, a son of the late Adam and Katherine Diehl, nee Heisner. He was married to Theresa Miller about twenty-nine years ago. Before obtaining his position as janitor at the library, he was employed at Lincoln Foundry.

Two sons and three daughters survive with their mother. They are:

Luella Diehl, at home
Bernice Diehl, at home
Raymond Diehl, at home
Robert Diehl, at home

He leaves also two brothers and two sisters:

Charles Diehl, 502 S 1st St
Henry Diehl, 502 S 1st St
Kate, wife of Robert Henry, E. St. Louis
Mrs. Lizzie Armbruster, Decatur, Ill.

The funeral will be held 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Services will be conducted at Pete Gaerdner Funeral Home by the Rev. C. R. Hempel, pastor of Christ Evangelical Church. Burial will be made in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
