He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). On August 1, 1941 he married Eunice Ryberg, daughter of Charlotte and Eric W. Ryberg, in the Salt Lake Temple. From 1946 to 1980 he lived in San Marino, California. While there he was given access to the Huntington Library and Art Gallery collections of diaries, manuscripts and publications concerning the early days of the Mormon Church. With these he conducted research, including editing the autobiographies of his great-grandfather Hosea Stout, who had been Chief of Police, a Colonel and acting Brigadier General in the Nauvoo Legion, and was Attorney General of the Territory of Deseret. He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends at his summer home on Lake Hebgen, near West Yellowstone, Montana. He loved to travel and was an honorary member of the Centurion Club having been to over 120 different countries.
He is survived by his three children, Reed R. (Jane) Stout, Cerritos, California; Elizabeth Arnell and Charlotte (Dennis) Doman both of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren, two great- grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eunice, two brothers, Clair LeRoy Stout and Joseph Harvey Stout, and son-in-law J. Hal Arnell. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 27th, 12:00 noon in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 11-11:45 prior to the services. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CareSource Hospice.
