Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dan Pickett Campbell, died peacefully on April 20, 2016, just two weeks shy of his ninety-first birthday.

Dan was born in Providence on May 3, 1925, the youngest of eight children born to Ezra Taft Campbell and Lucy Lorena Pickett Campbell.

He moved to Preston, Idaho with his family at a young age, where he attended school, but chose to join the Navy before graduating from high school to defend his country during World War II. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier Steamer Bay, which was often under Kamikaze attack.

Dan worked in the family grocery store as a butcher. During this time, he met and married Alice Adams on October 22, 1947 in the Logan Temple. They had two daughters: Lucie Ann (Ron) Jarrett and Peggy (Lloyd) Layton.

He started working for Utah Power & Light Company as a meter reader. He took additional courses in drafting which ultimately brought him and his family to Salt Lake City to work as a draftsman. As a senior draftsman, he specialized in designing power substations. He worked for Utah Power & Light for thirty years.

Dan married Betty Bettilyon Ware in the Salt Lake Temple on November 3, 1977 and added four more wonderful children to his family: Bill Ware (Antonina Kerttura), K.C. (Diane) Ware, Jon (Michelle) Ware, and Kim (Brad) Nelson. This blended family has the wonderful posterity of twenty-seven grandchildren and fifty-eight great-grandchildren.

Dan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities throughout his life, including being a bishop and a counselor in the Stake Presidency. Special church service experiences included being able to serve three missions with Betty, a leadership mission to the West Indies, the Nauvoo Temple Restoration mission, and tour guides and ordinance workers for the Nauvoo Temple when it was dedicated and first opened.

Although he has struggled with health issues for many years, he will be remembered for his big soft hands, his wonderful smile, and warm hugs.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple Street.
Graveside services and burial will be take place in the Providence City Cemetery on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
