Father Adrian Ramanauskas, son of Albert and Louise Ramanauskas, died of cancer on May 16 at Graymoor in Garrison. Fr. Ramanauskas is survived by a sister, Angela; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Beswick; an uncle, John Borkoski, all of Baltimore, Md., and numerous cousins. He was born Albert Stanislaus in Baltimore on Oct. 30, 1931, and was given the name Adrian when he was received into the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. He was a student of engineering for three years at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute before beginning his studies for the priesthood in the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at St. John's Seminary at Graymoor, Garrison, in 1948. In 1949 St. John's Atonement Seminary was moved from Graymoor to Montour Falls, N.Y. Fr. Adrian made his first profession of religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in 1952 and attended St. Pius the Tenth Seminary at Saranac Lake, where he received his B.A. degree in philosphy. In September of 1954 he began his studies in theology at the Atonement Seminary, Washington, D.C., and was ordained to the priesthood in 1958. Fr. Adrian continued his graduate studies in philosophy at Catholic University of America and earned his master's degree in June, I960. He also pursued courses in sacred music during the summers. After his ordination to the priesthood Fr. Adrian was appointed summer chaplain at St. Joseph's Camp at Indian Lake, N.Y. and began teaching in the minor seminary at Montour Falls. Later in the I960 he was appointed lector in philosophy and registrar of St. Pius X Seminary at Graymoor. In 1965 he was assigned to Our Lady of the Atonement Church in Kinston, North Carolina, as associate pastor. The following year he was given an assignment as retreat master at Gardiner Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada. In August of 1967 Fr. Adrian was appointed pastor of Christ the King Church in High Point, North Carolina, where he served for ten years. It was while he was pastor in High Point in 1970 that he suffered a heart attack, but was able to continue his duties as pastor. In 1977 he was appointed guardian and rector of the Major
Seminary of the Atonement Friars in Washington, D.C. In 1981 Fr. Adrian returned to Graymoor as an assistant in the purchasing department and in 1983 was assigned as registrar for friar personnel and became a staff member of the Personnel Board. A Wake Service was conducted in the Little Flower Chapel at Graymoor. Rev. Father Kevin McMorrow, S.A., former superior general of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, celebrated the Mass of the Resurrection in the chapel. Burial was in the Friars' cemetery at Graymoor.
