Paul Armor and his wife Esther spoke Indian fluently and Mrs. Preston served as an interpreter at an Indian treaty at Hollekonk.

Suggested Edit:

Paul and Armor Preston were two different men - they were brothers, both sons of Wm and Ann (Taylor) Preston. Amor was born 11mo 7, 1684/85 and married Esther Large of Bucks in 1710. Paul was born 9mo 10, 1690, recorded at Abington Mtg; he married widow Elizabeth (Oldman) Gilbert. Paul was apprenticed to Joshua Gilbert, a blacksmith, and upon Gilberts death in 1711, by his Will dtd 7mo 18, 1722, he left his blacksmith shop to his father John Gilbert, but it contained a proviso that if his servant/apprentice Paul Preston desired to purchase same, he could for the sum of £24, 15s. Paul Preston then married the widow of Joshua Gilbert, Elizabeth (Oldman) Gilbert, on 2mo 22, 1713 and apparently did take possession of same. This shop was in what is now the historic Elfreths Alley in old Philadelphia [the area of Frankford/Oxford that is now defunct and absorbed into the City of Philadelphia in 1854].

I have copies of the Wills (not abstracts) of William Preston, Ann (Taylor) Preston, Paul Preston and Joshua Gilbert
