Mildred McKinney of Kingdom City, Missouri passed away on April 18, 2016 in her home at 12:25 am.

Visitation will be at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton on Thursday 5:00pm – 7:30pm and the funeral will also be at Debo's Friday at 11:00am. Burial will be at Callaway Memorial Gardens after services.

Mildred was born on January 20, 1925 in Charleston, Iowa to Paul Burgdorf and Sophia Heiser Burgdorf. She was previously married to James David Pope. She married Herbert Norris McKinney, who preceded her in death on September 19, 1990.

Mildred worked as a cook at RI North Callaway High School for twenty years. In her retirement years, she kept her house and three acre yard in impeccable condition. She also canned and froze numerous items from her large garden. She took pride in being a great cook and always had something special in the oven when her beloved family members came to visit. Her favorite hobbies were going on trips with her children. She really enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Millie was a member of Richland Baptist Church in Kingdom City and Presbyterian Church in Auxvasse.

Millie's passion was quilting. She made dozens of beautiful quilts and gave many away to friends and family. She made several to be auctioned away for charity. One is hanging in Richland Baptist Church where the family attended. She also made numerous quilts for a quilt store in Branson, Mo. She was even teaching her great grandchildren how to sew quilts.

During her final days, Millie chose to return to her home and be surrounded by her family and her much loved dog, Trixie. Her final days were made comfortable with the aid of the compassionate people of Boone County Hospice.

She is survived by her sons: James (Judy) Pope of Ames, Iowa; Joe Pope (Mary) of New Bloomfield, Missouri; daughter Janice Rothermich (Dale) of Auxvasse. Her grandchildren are Melissa Niesen, Ames, IA; Jason Pope, Sacramento, CA; Diane Slater, Auxvasse, MO; Christi Rothermich, Union, MO; Michael Rothermich, Fulton, MO; Carrie Pope, New Bloomfield, MO; Robert J. Pope, II, New Bloomfield. Her step grandchildren are Robby Bednarski, Edward, Mo; Kenny Bednarski, Jefferson City; Laura Cooms, Butler, MO, one sister Verna Colyer of Farmington, Iowa and one brother, Robert Burgdorf of O'Fallon, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Sandy Pope, and step grandchildren Debbie Hoover and David Pope, two brothers Raymond and Roland Burgdorf.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association .
