Miriam was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Frank Herbert Parke and Emily Crawford Parke. She graduated with a chemistry degree from Mills College in Oakland, California and later received a Masters in Public Health at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
In 1962 she married Marvin Parish Balding in Little Rock, Arkansas. The couple later moved to Annandale, Virginia, where they resided for forty years. Miriam was very active at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Falls Church, Virginia. She loved to read, garden, and play cards. In 2009 she moved to Houston to be closer to family.
Miriam is predeceased by her husband, Marvin Balding, who died in 1991.
