FARMINGTON - Cynthia Shortelle Cox, 68, died on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at home with her family by her side after a short illness.
Born in Meriden on April 3, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Marjorie (Trout) Shortelle. She had resided in Meriden until moving to Delaware, then residing in Arkansas for the past 20 years, until moving back to Connecticut. She graduated from Maloney High School, class of 1965. Mrs. Shortelle was a lifelong medical biller, working for companies in Meriden, Hartford, Delaware and Arkansas. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Meriden and Poteau First Assembly of God. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Arkansas Scott County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue team coordinator. She bred German shepherds and then trained them for the police department for search and rescue. She was involved in many community events in Booneville, Ark., and was always doing charity work. She had a love of sports, especially football and she was a devoted Razorback fan. Her favorite place was the beach, where she spent her summers in Clinton, Conn., and Rockport, Mass.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Jaworski Palardy and her husband, Stephen; one step-daughter, Rose Nilson and her husband, Brian and their three children, one son, Darren J. Worth, one daughter-in-law, Lora Schenk; three grandchildren, Ryan C. Baril, Patrick S. Blake and Daniel A. Blake. She was predeceased by her brother, Terry J. Shortelle.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery with Pastor Lynn Lincoln officiating. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Monday, Aug. 3, from 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society , New England Division, 38 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854-2328.
