FRED S. GROSS, 84, a resident of Shelby, died Wednesday April 20, 2016 at Mercy Willard Hospital.

Born January 4, 1932 in Rome, Ohio to Ray M. and Martha (Lightfoot) Gross, he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Gross worked at the former Shelby Cycle Company, AMF, Inc. for 35 years and retired from Diversified Assemblies in 1992. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Air National Guard and was a member of the American Legion Post 326 in Shelby.

He loved to go camping and was the longest active member at Auburn Lake.

Fred is survived by his two daughters, Vicki Templeman of Shelby, and Diana (Judson) Prosser of Shiloh; five grandchildren, Judson Prosser Jr., Jodi Liggett, Jamie Tackett, Roy Templeman and Ryan Templeman; eight great-grandchildren, Justin Liggett, Jacob Prosser, Tyler Tackett, Skyler Templeman, Brandon Liggett, Zachary Tackett, Anna Templeman and Emma Templeman and two sisters, Patty Posekany of Shelby, and Norma Heydinger of New Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys (Fout) Gross in 1998 and five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. Steven L. Schag will officiate with internment held in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the donor's choice.
