GEORGE W. BICKLEY, JR.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, George started in the jewelry business and formed a successful dance band in the 1930s. The depression taught him to save most of what he earned. When WWII came along he served in the Army Air Corps at Lowry Field in Denver, teaching aviators to use the top-secret Norden bombsight. He settled in Denver, met and married Joyce Rodell his first wife of 45 years. He became a master hand engraver, successful entrepreneur and investor. George eagerly met new friends and passed his wisdom and saving discipline on to all. From the ice rink to the bucking-horse garden tractor, he was a Pied Piper for the neighborhood children with all the activities he set up in his yard. Always a very competitive player of tennis, golf and bridge, he enjoyed a wide range of talents and interests. He was a versatile musician, artist, gardener, furniture builder, inventor, skier, and traveler. His energy, curiosity and creativity inspired us all. He was at peace and ready to join Joyce who preceded him in death 23 years earlier. George is survived by his wife of 18 years Betty Baker-Bickley, his children Lynne (Vic) Quinn, Robert (Eileen) Bickley and George (Lori) Bickley III, daughters-in-law Jann (Jack) Emrick and Jill (Marty) O'Canna He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at an outdoor venue.
