Karen was a Baptist who taught Sunday School, was the leader of the Girl's Auxilliary and held weekly prayer meetings in her home. She was appointed by the governor to a committee as an advocate for Handicapped Independent Living and was a Kentucky Colonel. Karen led a very active life and traveled extensively. She was an inspiration to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers - Stephen Bates and Rodney Bates.
Karen is survived by her sister - Mary Ruth Tafoya (Mike) of Hardinsburg, KY
brothers - Randy Bates (Susheila) of Louisville, KY
John Wayne Bates (Carla) of San Diego, CA
sister-in-law - Betty Bates of Phoenix, AZ
nieces and nephews - Kimberly, Courtney and Roshon Bates, Michelle Boles, Jennifer T. Love, Todd Tafoya, Sarah Howard
great nieces and nephews - Emma and Logan Boles, Abigail Love, Levi, Carlos, Ashton and Skylar Tafoya
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 4 PM. Burial will be in the Brickey Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-4 PM.
