A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Bob served his country during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S Department of Public Welfare, where he had worked as a water system plant supervisor, and he was an active member of The Open Door Church in Chambersburg.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Mary Belle Heintzelman Staley, whom he married on June 16, 1977; daughters Carolyn Keeseman (David) of Waynesboro, Sharon Etter (Wayne) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Laurie Shaffer (Barry) of Florida, and Crystal Huff of Myrtle Beach, SC. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Jessica Keeseman, Ty Shaffer, Renee Shore, Darren Shaffer, Cory Shaffer, and Courtney Hutchinson, as well as five great-grandchildren, Ben, Tino, and John Samuel Shaffer and Chloe and Noah Shore. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Jr., three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services to honor Bob’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street Chambersburg, with Rev. Mike Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until services begin.
