Rites Held for Arthur Colvin

Funeral services for Arthur C. Colvin, 85, were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald W. Jones, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Colvin died Friday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. Taylor Barr, following a long illness.

Surviving besides Mrs. Barr (Dora) are two other daughters, Mrs. Arch (Opal) Cleveland of Watertown and Mrs. Stanley (Gladys) Calkins of Canton; one brother, L. B. Colvin of Wero Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, William T. Barr, Jr., of Syracuse and Richard Calkins of Winston-Salem, NC, and two great grandsons.

Mr. Colvin was born at Worth, on Aug. 2, 1876, the son of Levi and Mary Edwards Colvin. He was educated in the Sandy Creek School and married to Miss Emma Jane Waggoner at Lacona on March 16, 1897. Mrs. Colvin died on Dec. 12, 1948.

He worked on farms in that area for a while and was later employed at the Blount Lumber Co. at Lacona. He was freight agent at the N.Y.C. railroad in Pulaski from 1913 until 1930 and after that he worked for the Town of Richland until his retirement in 1941.

He was a member of Pulaski Lodge I.O.O.F. and of the Encampment.

Mr. and Mrs. Colvin were widely known in the North Country as square dance musicians, playing at local functions and for private parties. He played the violin and called and she accompanied him on the piano, and in earlier days with the organ or old lap melodeon.
