Died December 23, 2014, in Silver Spring, MD. He suffered from vascular dementia and was in the care of Montgomery Hospice at the time of his death.
Born in 1925, Mr. Eldridge was an Oklahoma native who received his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Oklahoma and did a doctoral program at Johns Hopkins University in political science.
He served in the Navy in World War II as a Japanese translator. In the 1960s and early 1970s, Mr. Eldridge largely worked overseas, building schools for refugees in Ghana and Tanzania, and working with the U.S. military on race relations issues in Korea and Okinawa.
In 1973, he joined the staff of the State University of New York at Brockport. In 1978, Mr. Eldridge returned to the Washington D.C. area, where he was a management training consultant.
After retirement, Mr. Eldridge served as a historian and Master Gardener at Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County. A descendant of Pocahontas and John Rolfe, he was an avid genealogist.

A celebration of his life will be held in the community room at 3200 N. Leisure World Boulevard in Silver Spring, Maryland, on Sunday, January 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brookside Gardens, Montgomery Hospice, or to a charity of one's choice.
