Samuel S. Sumner, Jr., 68, of Honoka'a died February 15th, 2016 at Tripler Army Hospital on Oahu. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he was a retired Special Education Teacher in Honoka'a, Hawaii. He loved his Country and served four years in the United States Coast Guard and three years in the United States Army, as a Vietnam Vet.

He was a world traveler, Adventurer and Discoverer, working on his Lost Colony Project in North Carolina for over 30 years. He was a very active member of the Honoka'a Lyons Club.

Sam was preceded in death by his mother Crystal Sumner.

He was survived by his wife, Patricia Rivera-Sumner of Honoka'a; his father, Samuel S. Sumner, Sr. of Oxnard, California; sister, Doris La Frenais, brother-in-law Ian La Frenais, nephew Michael Vartan of Beverly Hills, California; step-daughter, Christine Rivera-Acuna, granddaughters, Gigi Bolant and Astrud of Long Beach, California; sister and brother-in-law Linda and George Hammans, of Woodward, Oklahoma, and sister-in-law Sandy Barr-Rivera of Honoka'a.

Burial will take place at 9:00am, on May 21st, 2016, at the West Hawaii Veteran's Cemetery, Kailua Kona.
